Introduction - Cardona/Saucedo Research

Hello,

My name is Christine Cardona Threadgill and I am researching the surnames
Cardona and Saucedo from Rincon de Romos, Aguascalientes. My great-great
grandfather was Lino Saucedo born about 1875 in Aguascalientes. I do not
have marriage records for him but prior to 1901 he would have met
Guadalupe, her last name is not known for sure, however based on a baptism
record found on the LDS website with misspelling on the last name Saucedo
as (Aucedo) her maiden name may have been Peres. Together they had my
great-grandmother Gregoria Guadalupe Saucedo born November 27, 1901 in
Rincon de Romos. If that baptism record is correct she was baptized
December 15, 1901 in Rincon de Romos. Her younger brother was Pedro Saucedo
born 1904 also in Rincon de Romos. The story my great-grandmother Gregoria
always told me was that her mother died when she was very young, however my
mother told me she later heard that the truth was her mother abandoned
their family. I haven't been able to find any death or divorce records but
I guess either one would answer what really happened.

My great-grandma Gregoria also told me that her father was very strict and
did not approve of her marrying my great-grandfather, Marcos Ramos Cardona,
as he was also much older than her. I was told they almost had trouble
finding a priest to perform the ceremony, and as their first child was born
in 1918, I would assume their marriage was possibly 1917 or so, making my
grandmother about 16 years old. Their first daughter Guadalupe (Lupe)
Cardona was born 1918 in Aguascalientes, and their second daughter Juana
Cardona was born in 1922 presumably in Aguascalientes as well. I was told
she had one other child that possibly was stillborn or died soon after
birth, that was buried in Mexico in a border town, assuming she had this
baby before my great-aunt Juana it makes me think maybe Juana would have
been born in a border town. I have her border crossing record which shows
she came alone with her then only two daughters on April 10, 1923 through
El Paso, Texas. My great-grandfather had come beforehand and I was told he
worked in America and saved enough money to send for my great-grandma.
Based on a 1930 Mexican census both Lino Saucedo and Pedro Saucedo had
remained in Aguascalientes, and lived in a hacienda known as Saucillo.
Based on the census Lino had entered a domestic partnership with a woman
named Ramona Palacio. I am also told by my great-aunts that Pedro had a
wife named Anita, yet I did not see her on the census, so he may have been
married after 1930.

Marcos Cardona was born April 25, 1886 based on the records I have from the
cemetery, however I was told by family that some were not sure exactly when
he was born. I know much less about his family as he passed away in 1950 in
Tulare, California. I know he had several siblings, and traveled to America
with brothers Daniel and Maximilliano. I also have a border crossing record
for him showing an arrival date of April 7, 1923 in El Paso Texas, and on
this record it says his approximate birth year was 1891. I don't know
either of his parents names, but based on his death record his mother's
maiden name was Ramos. He also had a sister named Daria that remained in
Mexico along with other siblings.
I also remember my great-grandmother Gregoria (Americanized name was
Georgia) telling me how she hated her name, and it was given to her after
her grandmother, or an aunt, I can't remember which one, or on which side
of her family. After moving to America my great-grandparents moved to
Ventura County in California and had 6 more children, Eloisa (Elsie)
Cardona in 1924, Living Cardona in 1926, Monica Cardona in 1928, Living
Cardona 1930 and my grandfather (living) in 1936. They also had two other
children who passed away in America, one for sure was a baby named Esther,
and the other was possibly stillborn or a baby, I don't know the name.
Gregoria passed away in Fillmore, California in 2004.

I am trying to find any links back to Mexico as well as any records which
will give me more information on my family and hopefully I can find
information on previous generations.
