Researching Mexican military records
I wanted to thank the person who suggested that we email the following email (archivo@mail.sedena.gob.mx) for information about relatives who served in the Mexican military. I sent an email on July 31 and got a response back today that indicated they do have such information on my ancestor.
While my Spanish isn't that great, I think the letter says that it authorizes me to see the actual records in Mexico city, and take a digital photo of them, but not a photocopy because they are too delicate. Did anyone else get a response like this? While I'm excited about this new potential source of information because I thought the trail on my Pineda line had gone cold, I'm not really in a position to fly to Mexico city just to look at these documents. Any suggestions?
In case anyone else is interested, the person in question is named Pedro Pineda, my great-great grandfather in or near Tlaltenango, Zacatecas; he was born about 1851. I think the letter says he was a major in the Mexican military. Thanks!
