Catalina de la Cadena was not a bigamist
There were many Ruy Diaz de Mendozas.
most genealogist think that they have kept track of the fathers and sons and have not confused them.
But confused we were for a long time because Catalina de la Cadena was married to one of them (Ruy Diaz de Mendoza Cervellon, Virrey de Calabria). This Ruy Diaz de Mendoza died on the way to the new world with his wife, Catalina.
The other Ruy diaz de Mendoza was still alive and genealogist would confuse him with Catalina's husband and called her a bigamist or left open the door as to whether or not we were identifying the correct Ruy Diaz de Mendoza.
this second Ruy Diaz de Mendoza was married to Catalina Arellano y Rio.
there were also a bunch of female cousins that contributed to the confusion
There were two Maria Mendozas a Magdalena Mendoza, a Marina Mendoza and Juana Ramirez de Arellano that were all related
Juana Ramirez de Arellano was Hernendo Cortez's second wife, Magdalena mendoza married to Vicente Zaldivar de onate, One Maria de Mendoza was married to Ircio, the other Maria de Mendoza was married to Luis Marin were all cousins with the nearest relationship being through their Arellano lines and not the Mendoza lines. Mariana Mendoza was the daughter of Luis Marin and the second Maria Mendoza
what added even more to the confusion was that Mariana Mendoza was married to Juan Zaldivar. their daughter, Mariana Mendoza Zaldivar (last names inverted at times) was married in her 2nd marriage to baltazar Temino de Banuelos(1)
this family also created a lot of confusion with numerous Diego's and Baltazar Temino de Banuelos
Juan and Vicente Zaldivar had another brother named Diego Diaz De Zaldivar
Mariana's father in law was Diego Temino de Banuelos (1)
Mariana Mendoza Zaldivar and Baltazar had a son they named Diego Temino de Banuelos(2)
Diego (2) had many children, naming one of them Diego de Temino de Banuelos(3) and another Baltazar Temino de Banuelos (2)
All of these diego and baltazar temino de banuelos explain why I would get confused trying to connect the de la torre family to the right temino de banuelos with some documents listing One as a grandfather while others stating father
These last Diego and Baltazar had a sister by the name of Maria de Banuelos married to Francisco Figueroa de Carbajal who had a daughter named Angela de Figueroa y Banuelos
I hope this post helps someone in their research.
I am stuck on the parents of Giuomar "Mayor" de Cervellon, the wife of Ruy diaz de Mendoza Mendoza Virrey de Calabria, and hope that someone else has information on them.
