Mathias Morones and Phelipa de La Cruz

By preciasr - Posted on 28 May 2012

Nuestros Ranchos,

Regarding Joseph Gregorio Morones b. 1715 married to Leonor Peres about 1736 in Ayo el Chico and who was the patriarch of the Rio de Santa Maria Morones clan:  Records show Joseph's father as being Mathias Morones and mother being Phelipa de la Cruz.  Question:

1).  I cannot locate birth, christening or marriage records for Mathias Morones or Phelipa de la Cruz.  Their son Joseph Gregorio Morones was born in Zapotlanejo and Joseph later married Leonor in Ayo el Chico, however, I cannot find further birth, baptism or marriage records for either Mathias or Phelipa.  How do I continue my search to see if they migrated there from another part of Mexico? Do you have any suggestions.  Thank you.

Thanks Susan. I think I have answers for your questions…although, I'm not sure if they are the correct answers : )

1. Basically it means that the couple shared a common ancestor within four generations (great-great grandparents) and required permission from the Catholic Church to marry. In this case Jose de la Paz and Regina Zermeno’s common ancestor was a great grandparent for one (tercero grado) and great-great grandparent for the other (cuarto grado). This information helps when searching for and confirming that you have the right ancestor.

2. Caquiste or Caquixtle was a rancho (puesto) located between Lagos and Encarnacion. I am not exactly sure where this is located; however there are two places that have this name, Caquixtle de Arriba (http://mexico.pueblosamerica.com/i/caquixtle-de-arriba/) and Caquixtle de Abajo (http://mexico.pueblosamerica.com/i/caquixtle-de-abajo/).

Also, from the website: http://www.historiasyrecuerdosdeencarnaciondediaz.com/encarnacion.html
“54. Don José María Guerra y de Alba, era hermano de Don Manuel Jacinto Guerra y de los Señores obispos Guerra y Alba, pues era el decimo de los hijos de Don Francisco Guerra y Gómez de Portugal y de su primera esposa Doña Gertrudis de Alba y Verdín, propietarios del Rancho El Caquixtle.”

3. I have Jose Maria Romero’s parents as Miguel Romero and Encarnacion Romo

4. In the older records this area was called el puesto Rio de Santa Maria, which later became the communities of Santa Maria de Abajo, Santa Maria de Enmedio and Santa Maria de Arriba. The attached map shows the 3 Santa Marias and the probable location of Caquixtle.

Although, I do not have Morones ancestors, they are closely related to many of my ancestors. My paternal grandfather and great grandfather both had a Morones godfather.

I have Teodoro’s parents as Leandro Morones and Rosalia Iniguez; Benita’s parents as Jose Maria Morones and Macedonia Valdivia; this and additional generations are in the attached ancestry tree for Ismael Morones.  The patriach of the Rio de Santa Maria Morones clan was Joseph Gregorio Morones married to Leonor Perez, they were originally from Ayo el Chico.  The following website (http://www.jorgemorones.com/morones/index.htm) has a Morones family tree that may help.

Augustin,

You are truly amazing!  The information you have provided has been a great start.  Thank you very much. I have a few questions:

     1.  What does it mean when it states 'this marriage required a consanguinity
          dispensation'? (tercero con cuatro grado).
     2.  Is there a town or rancho near Encarnacion de Diaz by the name 'Caquiste'?
     3.  I am searching for the names of Jose Maria Romero's parents.  He was born about
1810. (Jose Maria Romero married Maria del Refugio Gonsalez 14 Jun 1837)
4).  I do not see the name of a rancho called 'Santa Maria de Abajo' does it go by
another name? I am looking for information on Teodoro Moronez (Morones) born
around 1840, married Benita Moronez.  Teodoro was the son of Jose Maria
Moronez and Macedonia Valdivia.  Also looking for Leonardo Moronez married
to Rojelia Inigas.  I believe they all may have been from Santa Maria de Abajo
near Encarnacion de Diaz.  Any information you can provide would be helpful.
           Thank you.

Hi Susan and welcome to the group.

I have a Jose de la Paz Romero baptized on Feb. 1, 1881:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18687-85489-76?cc=1874591&wc=1250
5196

father's name: Feliciano Romero
mother's name: Felipa Romo
paternal grandparents: Jose Maria Romero & Refugia Gonzalez maternal
grandparents: Antonio Romo & Julia de Alva
padrinos: Antonio Romo & Ynes Cornejo

On the margin it states that Jose de la Paz married Regina Zermeno on Aug.
1, 1908 in:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-18532-4073-16?cc=1874591&wc=12505
571

The marriage record states that prior to his marriage, Jose Paz lived in
Clito [Clifton] Arizona, it also states that this marriage required a
consanguinity dispensation (tercero con cuatro grado).
