The Nueva Galicia Genealogical Society, which focuses on genealogical interests from the Nueva Galicia area of colonial Mexico, is pleased to announce the 3rd Annual Nueva Galicia Genealogical Society Conference, which will be held in Sacramento, California (Northern California) at the California State Archive, 1020 " O " Street on May 12, 2012.

The California State Archive will provide two guided tours of the archive, one in the morning and another in the afternoon. They will also provide a viewing of California Spanish land grant and California's bilingual State Constitution material.

The conference will kick off with featured speaker, Claudia Casillas. Claudia will do a presentation on the Dispensas of Guadalajara. Among other issues, she will cover the current status of the extraction project. She will reveal what is a Dispensa Matrinonial and where these records are located. She will be breaking down a Dispensa document and showing techniques for extracting important details

Marian Kile will speak on PC Tips that all Genealogists Should Know. Marian will show us some ways to make our research and documentation easier. She will cover cutting and pasting, using screen images, saving documents and images, and more. Marian is a former Computer Programmer, and currently volunteers at the Sacramento Family History Center. She's an experienced Genealogist and has been teaching others how to research their family history.

Presenting as well is John M. Koelsch. He will give a talk on the subject of Mexican Revolution research sources. John is the moderator of the Yahoo Mexican Revolution Researchers Group. John has spent a number of years now doing research on the Mexican Revolution. This work has included searching in archives and university libraries across the USA with emphasis on resources found in the border states of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. He has also done research at the Archivo General de la Nación which is the National Archive of Mexico.

A premier Mexican musical group in Sacramento,CA. will provide a presentation on the historical origins and characteristics of the typical music of Jalisco and Zacatecas, Mariachi music, Tamborazo Zacatecano. The distinguishing characteristics of son jalisiense and corridos zactecanos will be explored,

The Hyatt Regency, at 1209 L Street has agreed to a group rate of $99 for participants of the NGGS conference. This hotel is a first class and newly-renovated facility. The AAA Four Diamond hotel is located in the heart of the city’s downtown, across from the State Capitol and Capitol Park. It is within walking distance to the State Archives on 1020 O Street.

A dedicated booking website will be created for our event so our guests will be able to make, modify and cancel their hotel reservations online, as well as take advantage of any room upgrades, amenities or other services offered by the hotel. You will receive an email confirmation when the Hyatt dedicated website is ready. Guests may also call the reservations department at 888-421-1442 and request the Nueva Galicia Genealogical Society block of rooms.

The cost for attending will be $ 50.00 to defray conference costs for coffee, pan dulce, La Lonche, materials, insurance and guest speaker rooms, etc. La Cena will be provided by Vallejo's Restaurant.
