Jose Diaz y Maria Raigoza: Tlaltenango

By oldcar53 - Posted on 28 February 2012

Joseph,

Might it be a writing or an entry error made by the priest or the scribe. I have my grandmother's baptism/birth record that shows on the left margin of the entry. Maria del Refugio Rodriguez and in the body of the record it says Maria del Refugio Ruiz, her correct surname. Had I not already known my grandmother's parents names, I would have missed this altogether and I also had an inkling about her birth year.

Sorry this is no help but just a guess or a possibility.

Alicia,
San Jose, Ca.

Subject: [Nuestros Ranchos] Jose Diaz y Maria Raigoza: Tlaltenango

In the Tlaltenango area around the 1730's I have some relatives whose names
are simply Joseph Diaz and Maria Raigoza. I have many many records for this
couple and it always the same simply Jose and Maria EXCEPT one Informacion
Matrimonial record for a daughter where the parents are referred to as
Joseph Diaz and Maria Diaz de Raigoza.

So what do I make of that is it simply talking about her marriage to Joseph
Diaz? Her parents are Francisco Raigoza and Brigida Miramontes. I guess I'm
wondering if she is just respecting her husband or might she be respecting a
grandparent? Heck it might not be her at all it might be just the way the
scribe or priest instructed it to be written.

Any thoughts?

Joseph
