Family Tree DNA

By StellaCardoza - Posted on 26 December 2011

I have used Family Tree DNA. I have used the Y-DNA 67 marker, and the mtDNA,
and have been pleased with the results. However, the Family Finder test has
been a disappointment. The default for all people with Native American DNA
is "Maya." I spoke with Bennett Greenspan the CEO and was told they do not
have ample Native American samples to be more accurate. It is a false
premise to give people the impression that everyone of Mexican descent is
genetically linked to the Maya people.

Secondly, Some of Mexican American descent are being classified as "Russian"
as a default in their Family Finder DNA. Mr. Greenspan thinks that this in
fact might be linked to some ancient people who migrated to the Basque
country from Finland, and not Russian as currently classified. There is no
historical evidence of a Russian presence in Mexico to justify use such
strong showing of Russian DNA in Mexico. Russian Jews who emigrated to
Mexico do not provide an answer.

I simply offer this as a caveat for those planning to invest money in DNA
testing.

Hello all:

I know that others have asked in the past, so I apologize. But I just want
to make sure if Family Tree DNA is the way to go. Specifically, were people
happy just doing the y-DNA test, which appears to be the cheapest test.
Also, which y-DNA test is really necessary: y-DNA 12, 25 or 37?

My father is interested in doing the y-DNA test. As for our lineage, while
I've had great success in searching various family lines from Tlaltenango
(ex. Gonzalez, Arteaga, etc), I've had no luck with our surname: Pineda/
Pinedo.

I've only been able to back to go back to my grandfather's father, Nicanor
Pinedo, who married twice in Tlaltenango. Based on his marriage records, his
parents were Pedro Pinedo and Pioquinta Cardoza. But I've not been able to
find any birth records for Nicanor Pinedo or marriage record for Pedro
Pinedo and Pioquinta Cardoza, so I'm stuck.

So maybe we'll learn something from the y-DNA test.

Estimado Sr. Agraz,
Saludos cordiales e igualmente feliz navidad y pr?spero a?o nuevo 2012.

I don't know if they are the best, but I think they are pretty good.
As for the tests, Y-12 gives you too many 12/12 matches from people not
really closely related to you. The more markers the better, I would go with
the Y-37 or Y-67 one. They currently have these tests on sale, but I think
the offer ends by the end of the year.
Best regards,

Hola Primo:

I need to tell you that I found baptism registration for twins Maria and
Jesus Diaz our records show that they were born from Alejandro Diaz Lea?os
and Maria Marcos Puentes Varela.

According to this record we could be mistaken the name of the Mother it
should be Maria Marquez as shown in the record Fathers ancestors are Tadeo
Diaz y Genoveva Lea?os.
Mother ancestors are Cecilio Marques and Dominga Varela you can check it up
