From: Dornelas, Afonso; Dornelas, origem Deste apelido (there is a exemplary in Funchal Library)
The Transalation from Portegues: The Origin of the Ornelas Surname, Im not sure where to buy it, would be a good book to have. Well thats it for now because the genealogy never ends it goes all the way back to the time of the Roman Empire and Jesus Christ so yeah. I think its really fun when you connect into a royal family. I have checked and your husband and I connect with almost every royal European family today, I think its really cool to know this. You may also be wondering Alvaro de Ornelas the one born in 1530-1532 did infact plea the King of Portugal to keep his fathers title in the 1560's when his father died. So what does that mean? Not only did that title came to Mexico it stayed there. The big question is who is the Heir to that title? Someone in Mexico right now is the rightful heir to the County of Dornelas. No one knows what happened to it, Ive been researching but have not found anything for the title after 1611 when Alvaro died. And there is no record of Alvaro the one born in 1530 to have children in Portugal. He only had to return in order to officially become Count of Dornelas but quickly returned to Jalisco. so the title did in fact say Mexico. Not like the Moctezuma line in which some returned to Spain. The Ornelas stayed in Jalisco. And Emilie I have some tips for you. I think youll need to extend your Ornelas line back to 1690-1710 because thats when I have a Benito Ornelas and I think your Benito is the ancestor of you Benito so I hope your husband and I can connect in the future. -Daniel Mendez del Camino
