This is a link to a story about the acquisition by the Bancroft Library in 1996. The collection includes 61 VOLUMES of original documents that were found at a book fair in Los Angeles. Apparently they had been in the possession of a Mexican family who took them from Mexico in the 1800s. They date from the 1500s to the 1800s and describe yes, terrible things, such as a brother turning in his two sisters and his mother after being tortured. They were imprisoned like dogs with collars around their necks, etc. He was later burned at the stake. There also is documentation of priests being punished by the Mexican Inquisition for sexual abuse of parishoners.
