Nicknames/apodos & connection to Delgadillos

On the subject of nicknames or apodos....

Gotta chime in. In my extended family we had several Franciscos. My
uncle was Tio Pancho, my cousin was Quico or Kiko, his son by the same
name was known as El Guero.--Probably to differentiate all of them. I
have also heard Paco for Franciscos, not for Enriques--don't believe we
have any in my extended family with that name, so who knows...
We also have several Maria de la Luz. We called my aunt Tia Quica or
Kika, while my sister and several cousins with the same names were
either Luz or Lucha. Sometimes my sister is also known as La Prieta
(the dark one) too. Come to think of it, our cousins with the same name
have light hair and skin. By the way, she's not even morena, but
blanca--dark hair, pale skin. I think my parents just wanted to call
her that with affection, and to differentiate from all of the Ma. De la
Luz' in the family. My brother in law who was Anglo thought this was
funny, especially since he and my sister were of the same coloring. I
understand that my aunt was Kika or Quica because my father couldn't
pronunciate her name as a child. Also they would differentiate them as
Lucha la de Tonio(Antonio) or Lucha la de Coco (Ma del Socorro), or
Lucha la de Luz, etc., Almost sounds biblical, huh? My youngest
brother, Antonio was called El Negro. Again he would be perceived as
blanco, but the cousins with the same name were lighter skinned--one we
also called El Guero. Here we had to sometimes go back to biblical...
Guero el de Coco and Guero el de Quico......

>> Jesus = Chuy

How about Pepe Chuy for the Jose de Jesus'. We used to call my cousin
that to make him mad.... Kind of sounds like Billy-Bob, huh?

It looks like your Diego Delgadillo is the son of our Diego Delgadillo.
According to my database I was showing 8 children born to Diego
Delgadillo
and Petrona de Yslas. In order of birth: Mariana 1655, Thomasa 1657 (my
ancestress), Bernardino 1659, Juan 1668, Catarina 1670, Maria 1672,
Agustin
1674, and Christobal 1677. As you can see, there is a gap between
Bernardino and Juan where Diego fits in quite nicely. I looked him up on
the
IGI and it did show that he was the son of Diego and Petrona. I have
just
added your Diego to my database.

Is this Diego your direct ancestor? If so, we are cousins once again!

Maria

Count me in on that one. So my Diego's parents were: Diego
Delgadillo & Petrona Yslas? If so, could you please elaborate what you
have on them and their ancestors. This is so exciting.

Diego Delgadillo & Fabiana Ramirez de Mendoza were also my 7th Great
Grandparents: Diego Delgadillo + Fabiana Ramirez de Mendoza>Petronila
Delgadillo + Juan de Dios Gtz de Mendoza>1: Maria-Esmeregilda
Gutierrez-de-Mendoza + Cristobal-Santiago Macias-Valadez> Maria-Cayetana
Macias + Vicente-Ferrer Gomez into my Gomez line... AND
>2: Jose-Fernando Gutierrez-de-Mendoza + Andrea-Josefa Macias-Valadez>
Maria-Micaela-de-San-Joseph Gutierrez + Jose-Bernardo Perez-de-Paredes<
AND through two of their children--one who married into my Gomez line
(again) & the other who continued the Perez line---all direct lines.
I'll elaborate with those who are interested. Just email me directly:
