Alt 255 FTM

For me right now I'm going to pass on the backSlashes and go with the
ASCII code ALT 255 which puts an invisible space between the names you
want to appears as one name.

okay now that you all have solved that problem here's another.

In Hispanic Genealogy almost everyone is a Jose or Maria, but the real
given name is the next name as in Jose Julio or Maria Eligia

so when I make a genealogy report I have to Underscore the first name as
in Jose_Julio in order for FTM to NOT drop the Julio and just constantly
refer to my relative as Jose so and so or Maria so and so.

is there a backSlash trick to maintain the first names without the
Underscore?

I just tried using backslashes around the double first name AND the
double surnames and it seemed to invert and use the first or give names
as the surname

So since this doesn't work what all would you suggest? Am I stuck using
the underscores?

I believe you mean that the name that folks are known by are often other
than their full given name. Many folks have this situation, regardless of
their heritage. One way to solve this is to enter the name which the person
is known by as their aka, and then in the reports, rather than using their
given name, you use their aka. You would need to make your file consistent
throughout, of course.

Example:

Jose Julio Gonzalez in the Name box.
Julio Gonzalez in the aka box.

As you would read from yesterday's discussion, you can also add a New Fact,
such as Alternate Name, and then include that within a report or even a
graphical chart. I urge you to place the IMPORTANT name in the aka though
as you can do more with it while searching the Index of Individuals - you
can have the aka appears as the SOLE name for the individual or as a second
entry for the same individual. Pick your poison!

No but there is a TRICK if you wish to refer to

Anna Maria Preciat as Anna Maria rather than merely Anna. I do not use it,
but the Alt-255 key (when done both at once with numbers entered from the
numeric keypad) combination generates a blank space that changes the name to
do what might be used. I think it is used more for Southern names where
many folks are commonly called something like Billy Bob as if it were one
name.
